BM Plumsteel owns and operates this website and the services offered through it (the "Service"). We are responsible for collecting and otherwise processing your personal information in the Republic of South Africa.

What personal information do we collect?

When we collect information we will tell you which fields are required and which are optional, and what the consequence of not supplying it would be - for example, we may not be able to quote you or deliver an order.

  • Order information - current orders, purchase history, invoices and tracking numbers
  • Identity number and a copy of an identity document, where required
  • Company details where you buy as a business (registration number, VAT number, registered address)
  • Geographic or location information relevant to a site survey or delivery
  • Financial information such as bank account details and credit history, where a credit facility is applied for
  • Credit screening information obtained from a third party such as a credit bureau
  • Information you volunteer through forms, quotes and enquiries on this website, which may include municipal billing details, electricity meter numbers and consumption figures

Content you post

If you post a review, comment, recommendation or other content through this website or through a third-party channel such as Facebook, Instagram or Google, that content may be visible to our staff and we may publish it on this website.

Where does the information come from?

We collect personal information directly from you, or from a referring party such as an existing customer who put us in touch with you. We do not buy personal information from other sources. Some technical information is collected automatically - see "Cookies" below.

Why do we collect your personal information?

How do we share your personal information?

  • A potential purchaser or new owner, if our business is sold or merged

We may also release personal information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with the law, to enforce our terms, to protect our rights or the safety of any person, to maintain the security of the Service, or to respond to a court order, subpoena, search warrant or other legal process.

Marketing communications

We may contact you by email, SMS, WhatsApp or other channels to market our products and services, or for the other reasons listed above. If you no longer wish to receive marketing from us you can opt out at any time by contacting us using the details below. You may still receive non-marketing messages relating to your orders and account.

Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this notice, or for as long as we are legally required to keep it - for example to comply with tax law, to resolve disputes and to enforce our agreements. Usage data is generally kept for a shorter period, except where it is used to strengthen security or improve the website.

Cookies and device data

When you use this website we may record identifiers associated with your device (such as IP address), the pages you view, the links you click, your browser type and operating system, how long you spend on the site and the page that referred you. We use this aggregated information to improve the site and to create new features. We do not knowingly collect special personal information such as religious or philosophical beliefs, race or ethnic origin, trade union membership, political persuasion, health or sex life, criminal behaviour or biometric information.
